Wild Rebel Rose

It’s hard for anyone to understand
Why at sixteen you just up and ran
They didn’t know you only knew your daddy’s love
Like the back of his hand

I heard the shots, saw you hit the door
I snuck in and grabbed the pistol off the floor
Don’t you worry, they won’t find it, that’s for sure.
                                                      {Martina McBride}

Muse A lives in an abusive household. They keep to themselves, make up excuses for their injuries, and began learning how to fix things like dislocated shoulders and cover their bruises with makeup by themselves.

Muse B lives across the street, and can’t help but take notice of how often the police visit the Muse A’s house. Even though domestic violence seems to be a common occurrence, nothing ever seems to be done about it. Until one night…

Muse A is awoken by gunshots, and looks outside to find Muse A bursting from their house and running down the street. They catch sight of them before they disappear into the darkness, but venture out towards the house anyway. They find the gun that had been dropped and take it, hiding or disposing of it to help Muse B.

A couple of days later, after watching police and investigators take apart the crime scene and clean up the mess, asking neighbors questions and trying to find the lost child, Muse B shows up to Muse A’s house in the middle of the night. They’re still wearing the bloody clothes from that night, and beg to be let inside, beg to be allowed to hide.

Will Muse A allow it? Knowing they could be charged with hiding a fugitive or even assisting in a murder if they’re caught?
