   Life at home wasn’t the best for Asada. She’d be clawing at the walls ready to get out. Divorce was happening. Fights broke out and the teenager would shut them out and cry. She needed to leave.

   She had the date set. She’d pack a duffel bag, write a note and run. She could drive, but didn’t have her own car. She was hoping to hitch hike or have a friend help.

   So when the day came, she was packing quietly. She had already written a note. Reading over it carefully, she checked to se if there was anything she could do to fix it.

“ —- Mom and Dad;

I really can’t take this anymore. The fighting, I mean. I’ve decided to run away. A friend will pick me up and take me. I trust her. I may not come back, don’t look for me. Don’t get the police involved, if you can help it. I’ll be fine, able to live the life I want.

~ Asada

   It was simple. It cleared things up. She had the note on her desk as she packed. She stuffed her phone, charger, ear phones, toiletries and clothes. She kept the pack small. Stuffing in the last thing, she stood, ready to head out.

   When her mother stopped her.

   Asada’s mom resembled her, except with longer hair. She had come up for something else, obviously. Lunch, maybe? Or “I’m doing errands” when she’s really heading out drinking. Who knows. Asada had the plan of yelling “I’ll be back” and then leave. Not be encountered.

   Her mother seemed to know. The duffel bag gave it away, probably. And she looked pissed. Asada flinched as her mother put her hands on her hips.

Where are you going, young lady?” Her stern voice boomed out, one hand pointing at her bag.

   Fear ran through her viens, chilling her body. She could laugh this off. She was strong! She could do this.

– “ I’m just staying the night with a friend! Gonna be with Shinkawa tonight.. ” The lie slipped through her tongue too easily.

   Her mom eyed her suspiciously. But let her go on. Asada knew she’d check up on Shinkawa to see if she was really there, but at this point it didn’t matter. All she needed was a ride and to get out of this town.

   And that’s what she was going to do. Rushing out of the house, she ran, afraid that she’d hear her mother screaming after her, having seen the note. Hear the tears of her parents. She ran out of the neighbourhood, stopping right in front of the major roadway. Looking left and right, she took a sharp right, running until her legs hurt.

   That’s when Asada saw them. They looked safe enough. Her eyes brightened, trugging herself over to the person. With desperate gasps of breath, she began to stutter her tale of woe.

– “ I–I… I’m sorry, but I really need help… I ran away from home and I need a buddy to help me out.. ”
